Novosibirsk Residents Can Report Bus and Tram Temperatures Directly to the Carrier

Novosibirsk residents experiencing discomfort due to excessive heat in public transportation can now report the issue directly to the carrier. The city administration encourages passengers to utilize this reporting mechanism as a means of addressing temperature concerns in buses and trams.

Complaints have surfaced regarding the stifling heat inside public transport vehicles, including both buses and trolleybuses, prompting the city to respond. While not all public transport is equipped with air conditioning, the city is taking steps to improve the situation.

Many residents describe unbearable conditions, especially during peak hours. One resident stated that the buses feel like they are running heaters instead of air conditioners, and open windows offer little relief. Others lament the lack of air conditioning in trolleybuses, particularly when crowded.

The City Hall clarified that air conditioning systems are installed in 155 buses, 258 trolleybuses, and 20 trams, primarily within the fleets of MUE “Gorelectrotransport” and JSC “Novosibgorstrans.” Temperature regulation is generally maintained through opening hatches and windows or activating the air conditioning systems. The city has mandated the installation of air conditioners in new rolling stock purchases since 2021.

However, retrofitting older vehicles with air conditioning is problematic, potentially leading to wiring overheating and fire hazards. If an air conditioning system malfunctions during a shift, the vehicle will remain in service, and repairs will be carried out upon its return to the depot or under warranty.

Passengers can find carrier contact information inside the vehicle to report temperature concerns. In addition to contacting the carrier directly, residents can also lodge complaints with MUE “Center for the Management of Urban Auto-Electric Transport” or the City Hall.
