Worker Rescued from Storm Drain During Moscow Flood

A worker was rescued from a storm drain in Moscow after being swept away by floodwaters during heavy rain. The incident occurred while the worker was cleaning a drain connected to the Chertanovka River.

Passersby and colleagues initially caught the man, preventing him from being completely swept away. Rescuers arrived on the scene within 15 minutes and successfully pulled him from the drain.

According to the Moscow Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS), the worker may have “overlooked” or stumbled, leading to the incident. He was then handed over to medical personnel for evaluation.

The rescue operation involved approximately ten people who used a rope to pull the worker to safety.

Moscow and the surrounding region experienced significant rainfall and strong winds on Sunday, June 8th. The Moscow Ministry of Emergency Situations had issued warnings about the severe weather, which included thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Another day of rain is expected in Moscow with potential thunderstorms and hail in some areas. The agency is advising residents to park their vehicles in safe locations, avoid billboards and unstable structures, exercise caution while driving, and ensure children are supervised. Wind gusts could reach up to 17 m/s.
