Kirillo-Belozerskaya Siege Historical Reenactment Festival to Take Place in Vologda Oblast

The “Kirillo-Belozerskaya Siege” historical reenactment festival will be held in the Vologda Oblast on June 21st and 22nd. The event will feature approximately 200 reenactors from various Russian cities recreating the siege of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery during the Time of Troubles.

The reenactment will take place within the medieval walls and towers of the 17th-century monastery. The central event will be the reconstruction of the monastery’s defense against Polish-Lithuanian invaders. Armed knights will engage in combat to 17th-century music, with large-scale cavalry and infantry battles anticipated.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages through various activities, including contests, buhurts (melee combat), and a historical fair. Educational workshops, excursions, and medieval cuisine will also be available.

The festival will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission will be charged. The annual event attracts thousands of tourists.

The six-year siege and defense of the Kirillov Fortress against Polish-Lithuanian interventionists (1612–1618) was significant in saving the state. Polish-Lithuanian troops finally left Russia in 1618.
