Moscow and the surrounding region were hit by severe weather on Monday, June 9, with heavy rain and strong winds causing disruption and damage. The adverse conditions are expected to persist into the evening, prompting authorities to issue a yellow weather warning and caution residents about potential thunderstorms.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations has released an urgent advisory, highlighting the risks of short-term showers, thunderstorms, hail, and squally winds in Moscow and its environs.

Residents have shared images and videos depicting the impact of the extreme weather. Orekhovo-Zuevo experienced large hail, with some hailstones reportedly reaching the size of quail eggs.

In Moscow, torrential rain caused significant flooding, with Leninsky Prospekt particularly affected. Videos show cars struggling to navigate the flooded streets with visibility severely reduced.

A tree in Lefortovo, unable to withstand the strong winds, fell onto parked cars on Krasnokazarmennaya Square. Other parts of the city also experienced intense rainfall, with one resident describing the downpour in Kuzminki as “pouring like a wall.”
