The Klassika orchestra’s season opening is postponed indefinitely due to an injury sustained by its artistic director and principal conductor, Alexander Kantorov. The festival’s press service reported the incident on June 9th.
The accident, which occurred the day before the scheduled opening, made it impossible to find a replacement conductor in time. The orchestra had prepared a specific program for the initial concert.
The opening of the V season of Summer Public Concerts was originally scheduled for June 10th at the Railway Workers’ House of Culture. The concert series was slated to run on June 10, 17, and 25, as well as July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.
The planned program included masterpieces by renowned Russian and foreign composers such as Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Strauss, Verdi, Rossini, and Tchaikovsky.
It remains uncertain who will replace Kantorov for upcoming performances and the duration of his required absence.
Alexander Kantorov, 78, is an Honored Artist of Russia and a former student of the esteemed conductor and music teacher Ilya Musin. Kantorov founded the Klassika orchestra in Leningrad in 1986, and it gained state status in 1992.
