Tatyana Drozdova, 23, passed away in Novosibirsk on June 4 after suffering from ADA-SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency) for several years. Her mother, Alena, alleges negligence at the hospital contributed to her death.
The autopsy report indicates that Tatyana died from cerebral edema, subarachnoid hemorrhage from an intracranial artery, and adenosine deaminase deficiency. Alena believes that the on-duty doctor’s refusal to order a CT scan when Tatyana complained of vision problems and severe pain may have contributed to her death.
According to Alena, Tatyana had been experiencing severe chest and back pain for five days prior to being hospitalized for pneumonia on May 23. She had visited the clinic where she was offered an X-ray, and was prescribed painkillers but the results were delayed.
Alena stated that on June 2, Tatyana’s vision deteriorated. Although a neurologist examined her, Alena claims that a CT scan was not performed, which she believes could have detected the developing edema.
She also alleges that a strong medication prescribed to Tatyana on June 3 was immediately canceled. Alena claims she called the on-duty doctor multiple times, and Tatyana herself asked if she could have brain edema. She says the doctor dismissed these concerns.
Alena reported that Tatyana’s condition deteriorated rapidly. She stopped being able to walk or sit up, and complained of severe headaches and sensitivity to light. Alena pleaded for her daughter to be transferred to intensive care, but her request was denied.
Alena was informed of Tatyana’s death on June 4 at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Alena plans to seek an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death at the hospital.
Previously, it was reported that a court ordered that Tatyana should be provided with a foreign drug costing 50 million rubles per month, but she never received it. Alexander Bastrykin ordered a criminal case to be opened following an appeal from Alena. Alena also intends to contact the Ministry of Health again.
