Ekaterinburg Residents Enjoy Beach Day Despite Swimming Ban

Despite warnings against swimming, residents of Ekaterinburg flocked to the beach at Verkh-Isetsky Pond on Monday afternoon to soak up the sun. Many were seen sunbathing, and some even braved the chilly water to unofficially open the swimming season.

The influx of beachgoers occurred during the work week, indicating a carefree attitude towards typical Monday obligations.

Authorities have previously warned against swimming in the pond, as it is among the city’s bodies of water that have not been approved by sanitary officials. Swimming in these waters could lead to skin rashes and other health problems.

Water temperatures in Sverdlovsk region water bodies are not expected to be suitable for swimming until mid-June.

While the city is expected to remain hot, the forecast for the week includes rain. Forecasters have also provided a general outlook for the summer in the Urals, but noted that the weather patterns are subject to change.
