A state of emergency has been declared in the Kazachinsky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory after a ship ran aground and leaked fuel into the Yenisei River. The incident, which occurred near the Kazachinsky rapids, a known hazard for river traffic, resulted in an estimated 30 tons of diesel fuel spilling into the water.
The accident took place the day before, according to the head of the district, Yuri Ozerskykh.
The primary concern is the potential harm to the local flora and fauna. Specialists are assessing the environmental impact.
At the time of the incident, there were 14 crew members aboard the vessel. Two were evacuated to the shore, while the remaining crew members stayed behind to manage the situation.
Barrier booms have been deployed, and drones are being used to monitor the affected area. The oil slick has already reached the shores of Piskunovka and Momotovo.
The district commission for the prevention and elimination of emergencies has been working on-site since the evening of the incident.
Local officials have been instructed to monitor the Yenisei River for signs of oil slicks and any impact on wildlife. This includes observing the appearance of oil on the water, as well as any instances of dead fish, animals, or birds. Any observations are to be immediately reported to the emergency headquarters.
The heads of several village councils, including Pyatkovsky, Galaninsky, Momotovsky, Mokrushinsky, Kazachinsky, and Zakharovsky, are actively involved in this monitoring effort.
Authorities are emphasizing that there is no immediate threat to the human population of the district.
