Cyclone Veit Continues to Form After Disrupting St. Petersburg Weather

St. Petersburg is bracing for continued heavy rainfall throughout the day as Cyclone Veit intensifies and moves north. The center of the cyclone, which originated over Belarus, has already shifted to the south of the Pskov region and is forecast to pass east of St. Petersburg.

The Leningrad region will experience varied weather conditions, with showers and thunderstorms expected in the east, while the west and St. Petersburg anticipate heavy rains along the atmospheric front. Morning rains have already begun, with the most intense precipitation expected later in the day and continuing into the night.

Meteorologist Alexander Kolesov forecasts that St. Petersburg could receive 20 to 30 mm of precipitation today. The eastern part of the city is predicted to experience the heaviest rainfall.

The normal June precipitation for St. Petersburg is 69 mm, indicating that some areas could receive a significant portion of their monthly rainfall in a single day. German meteorologists have named the compact but active cyclonic vortex “Veit.”
