Construction of a residential complex near the Tushinskaya metro station in Moscow has been suspended due to concerns about potential damage to the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya metro line tunnel. The Moscow Construction Supervision Authority confirmed the suspension pending inspection results conducted by AO “MosInzhProekt,” following reports of alleged tunnel subsidence and cracks appearing in Telegram channels.
The Department of Transport initially reassured the public that there was no threat to passenger safety, emphasizing daily monitoring and inspections of the tunnels. However, activity at the construction site decreased, raising suspicions among future residents of the complex.
The Moscow Construction Supervision Authority stated that the construction project was officially approved by all relevant authorities, including the Moscow State Expertise and the Moscow Metro. The project’s foundation is located close to the tunnel zone, requiring expert opinions and precise construction technology.
While the Moscow City Construction Supervision Authority claims to have found no violations of production technology affecting the metro facilities, the tunnel inspection results are still pending. The developer, MR Group, insists that the construction is in accordance with regulations and under the control of supervisory authorities.
Experts emphasize the importance of waiting for the tunnel inspection results, citing the risk of damage to tunnels, especially those at shallow depths like Tushinskaya station. The construction suspension highlights the higher level of responsibility associated with metro structures compared to civilian objects.
Sergey Zege, Associate Professor of MADI, explained that underground structures are susceptible to groundwater influences and that construction can continue after surveys and protection measures are completed. Transport expert Vladislav Bulgakov acknowledged the ambiguity of the situation, balancing safety concerns with the ongoing construction boom in Moscow.
The incident echoes a past event in 2023 when BCL trains were affected by nearby construction, underscoring the potential risks associated with rapid construction near metro lines.
