Evgenia Berkovich, a theatrical director serving time in Correctional Colony No. 3 in the Kostroma region, has been banned from participating in any creative endeavors, including directing plays. This information comes from a Telegram channel managed by the director’s relatives, as reported by RBC.
Berkovich was moved to the Kostroma region colony in February after being held in a Moscow pre-trial detention center.
Berkovich and playwright Svetlana Petriychuk were convicted in connection with their theatrical production, “Finist the Bright Falcon.” They were found guilty of making calls for terrorist activities and justifying terrorism. Following an appeal, Berkovich’s sentence was reduced to five years and seven months in a colony, while Petriychuk’s was set at five years and ten months. Both women had already spent over a year in pre-trial detention.
The play “Finist the Bright Falcon,” which previously won Russia’s top theatrical award, the “Golden Mask,” depicts Russian women who met Syrians online, converted to Islam, and traveled to Syria to become wives of ISIS militants.
