The Ostankino TV tower in Moscow experienced a lightning strike on June 8, but its operations were not disrupted. The tower’s press service confirmed this, stating that the structure is designed as a powerful lightning rod.

The design creates a safety zone within the tower and extends to a 200-meter radius around it.

Earlier in the day, social media users had shared images of the lightning strike during a thunderstorm.

Moscow was under a weather advisory for heavy rain and thunderstorms, with the potential for tornadoes.
