Irina Osipova, the head of the therapeutic department at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, is grieving the loss of her 31-year-old son, Stepan, who died on May 29. His body was found outside a building. Osipova, who is currently facing fraud accusations, believes the stress related to her case may have contributed to her son’s death.
Osipova recounted that Stepan was deeply affected by the criminal case against her and was worried about her well-being. She mentioned that he had been receiving calls from unknown individuals claiming to be investigators and that she had advised him not to answer them.
According to Osipova, on the day of his death, Stepan went to work as usual. She witnessed the incident from her balcony and says that “damage with uncertain intentions” was written on the death certificate.
Osipova firmly believes that her son did not commit suicide and suspects foul play. She claims that the investigator at the scene did not properly examine the body and even mocked her. Osipova has filed a complaint with the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, and the investigator has been suspended.
The fraud charges against Irina Osipova stem from allegations that she submitted a fake certificate of completion for advanced training courses to her employer in 2024, in order to receive a bonus. Osipova claims that these charges are a form of retaliation from her superiors, due to her advocacy for the rights of her subordinates, which led to successful lawsuits against the institution’s administration.
During one of the interrogations related to the fraud case, Osipova suffered a stroke and now uses a wheelchair.
