The documentary “Baikal: Living Water,” exploring the power of nature and the human spirit, was presented in Chita on June 7 as part of the XII Trans-Baikal International Film Festival. The screening was preceded by a meeting with Irina Larionova, the film’s creator, a Doctor of Philosophy, professor, and champion in winter swimming.
The film follows a winter swimming club from the Moscow region as they travel to Lake Baikal with students to compete in an open water festival near Olkhon Island. The journey becomes more than just a sporting event as the participants connect with the sacred lake and experience personal transformation.
Larionova described Baikal as a place that changes, heals, and transforms people. She emphasized that the trip is an immersion in beauty and mystery, reminding people of the fragility of the world and fostering courage, humility, and love.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage with the filmmakers, learn about the challenges of filming in Lake Baikal’s extreme conditions, and explore the project’s philosophy, which promotes a healthy lifestyle and Russian traditions.
The XII Trans-Baikal Film Festival received support from businesses operating in Transbaikalia. Bystrinsky GOK served as the general partner, with the Highland Gold group of companies also among the partners.
