Muslims in St. Petersburg gathered for prayer in the streets near mosques this morning, June 6th, to celebrate Kurban Bayram. The area around the Cathedral Mosque on the Petrograd Side was particularly crowded.
Traffic was temporarily blocked on Moskovsky Prospekt near Sennaya Square to accommodate worshipers until 9 a.m., and metro access was restricted at “Gorkovskaya” station, returning to normal operation by 8:30 a.m.
Attendees included people from diverse backgrounds, including guests from Jamaica, who stood out in bright clothing. The celebration saw families attending together.
Kurban Bayram is a major Islamic holiday symbolizing mercy, compassion, and helping others.
Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his congratulations to Muslims, acknowledging their active role in the country’s life and their support for those defending the nation.
