Canadian Black Wolf Nurses Cubs at Novosibirsk Zoo

A Canadian black wolf has been observed nursing her cubs at the Novosibirsk Zoo, delighting visitors. The heartwarming scene was captured on video by a frequent zoo patron, Sergei Iltyakov, and shared on social media.

The video shows the wolf lying down while one cub snuggles close. Soon, several more black wolf cubs, a total of four, approach their mother.

The adult wolf is seen interacting tenderly with her offspring. At one point, she briefly moves away, causing the cubs to look around warily before she returns to their side.

According to the Novosibirsk Zoo’s website, the zoo acquired its first pair of black wolves from Canada in 1992. The species has successfully reproduced at the zoo since 1995. Typically, wolf cubs are born with black fur, which gradually turns gray as they age.

This isn’t the only recent birth at the zoo; in mid-May, four Hudson wolf puppies were also born and captured on video.
