A young woman who disappeared from a St. Petersburg hospital in 2016 has been located after nine years. The then 16-year-old girl had been hospitalized for a planned surgery when she ran away from her ward on December 25, 2016, and vanished.
The Investigative Committee for the city reported that the girl’s mother contacted the police in late December 2016 to report her daughter’s disappearance. Prior to leaving, the girl deleted her social media page, left all her belongings and documents at the hospital, and took a jacket from a roommate.
Investigators learned from acquaintances that the girl had argued with her family because they did not wish her a happy birthday.
Cameras helped locate the girl nine years later. She explained that she fled the hospital due to family problems and to avoid the surgery. She initially stayed with a friend before moving to another city, where she secretly gave birth to two children with a man.
