Yekaterinburg Residents Struggle to Recall Pushkin’s Poetry on His Birthday

Many residents of Yekaterinburg, Russia struggled to remember lines from Alexander Pushkin’s poems during a public survey conducted on his birthday, which also marks International Russian Language Day.

The survey, carried out by E1.RU, revealed that recalling even a few lines from Pushkin’s works was challenging for numerous participants. Older individuals generally demonstrated greater success in reciting the poet’s verses.

Younger residents, on the other hand, found the task more difficult. One young man openly admitted his inability to recall any lines, while a young woman attempted to remember her favorite poem, “To my Nanny,” but stumbled over the words.

Despite the difficulties some faced, the city of Yekaterinburg celebrated Pushkin’s birthday with organized poetry readings and a large-scale 19th-century-themed event in the Literary Quarter. The celebrations aimed to honor the poet and his significant contribution to Russian literature.
