Moscow Pediatrician Anastasia Goryainova Transferred to House Arrest in Bribery Case

Anastasia Goryainova, a Moscow pediatrician specializing in cystic fibrosis, has been moved to house arrest after initially being held in a pre-trial detention center in Chita on bribery charges. The decision to change her measure of restraint came after an appeal, as confirmed by her lawyer, Evgeny Nesterenko.

Goryainova is accused of paying a bribe to the head of the Accreditation Center in Chita last year to obtain a remote advanced training certificate. The defense maintains that the doctor legitimately paid for and completed the course, receiving a diploma after verifying the necessary licenses.

According to relatives, Goryainova was allegedly coerced into confessing after being threatened that her 14-year-old daughter would be taken to an orphanage. She was initially summoned to Chita as a witness but was quickly reclassified as the accused.

Following her summons, she spent two months under house arrest in a Chita lawyer’s apartment, followed by a month in a pre-trial detention center.

The case is linked to the arrest of Mikhail Pudov, chairman of the accreditation commission of the healthcare sector of the Trans-Baikal Territory, who is accused of accepting 30 million rubles in bribes for issuing accreditations. He is currently in a pre-trial detention center.

Goryainova had been invited to take on a management position at the private clinic “Mother and Child” (MD Group) last year, contingent on completing an advanced training course and obtaining a certificate. She was advised by the personnel department to contact the Accreditation Center of the Chita State Medical Academy.

Her lawyer stated that he cannot disclose further defense strategies, and Goryainova is prohibited from disclosing details of the criminal case due to a non-disclosure agreement.
