A project to launch an electric train between Yekaterinburg and Sysert is under consideration, aiming to solve transportation challenges and stimulate development for both cities. According to Dmitry Niskovskikh, the head of Sysert, existing railway tracks to Sysert could be modernized to establish the service.
The modernization of over twenty kilometers of tracks leading to Yekaterinburg is required for the project. The electric train would provide a comfortable and efficient transport link for residents of Yekaterinburg to access recreational areas in Sysert, such as “Bazhovskie Mesta” and areas near Kamenka and Sedelnikovo.
Niskovskikh highlighted the potential for the electric train to serve employees of existing and future enterprises in the Sysert district. Workers currently commute from Yekaterinburg to Sysert, and the new train line would facilitate transportation to large-scale projects like “Sima Town” and a logistics park in Bolshoye Sedelnikovo. The railway would also benefit agricultural enterprises in the district by providing a means for workers to reach locations like the new complex being built by the Patrushi agricultural firm in the Cherdantsevo area.
Niskovskikh recalled a trip with the former head of the Sverdlovsk Railway, Ivan Kolesnikov, which demonstrated a forty-minute journey from Yekaterinburg-Passazhirsky station to the center of Sysert. He hopes to showcase this route to the acting governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Denis Pasler. The electric train is envisioned as a solution for transporting workers to enterprises in Sedelnikovo, Polevoy, and the southern part of the Yekaterinburg Ring Road.
Calculations from two years ago estimated the modernization of the tracks to Sysert at two billion rubles. The electric train to Sysert is planned to be integrated into the Yekaterinburg Central Passenger Ring, connecting the metropolis’s center with remote areas and satellite cities like Sysert.
Niskovskikh emphasized the need for a comprehensive decision and funding to move forward with the project. He stated that increasing the population of the Sysert municipal district from 66,000 to 100,000 people by 2045 is a long-term development goal. The electric train is seen as a crucial element in achieving this growth.
