Federal Passenger Company (FPK) has issued a warning to train passengers traveling to the Kaliningrad region, citing instances of passengers being disembarked at the Lithuanian border due to non-biometric foreign passports.
The FPK reported on June 6th that Lithuanian border services are removing passengers with non-biometric foreign passports of the Russian Federation when crossing the border by rail.
Passengers with non-biometric passports are advised to purchase tickets at least 28 hours before departure. This allows for the mandatory registration of a simplified railway travel document (UPD-ZhD), regardless of whether the passenger possesses a Schengen visa.
Furthermore, passengers are required to complete a questionnaire on the website of Lithuanian consular institutions. Those who have already purchased tickets will receive an SMS with a link to the questionnaire.
The company notes that if there are fewer than 28 hours before departure, it is impossible to issue the UPD-ZhD, and without it, Lithuanian border guards may deny entry to passengers with non-biometric foreign passports.
Conductors will inform passengers lacking the necessary documents to cross the Lithuanian border upon boarding and recommend postponing travel until the documents are processed.
