The Russian government is taking steps to control the rise in electricity costs for consumers. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has directed key ministries to develop proposals aimed at limiting the growth of consumer spending on electricity.
The Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economic Development, and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) are tasked with providing detailed forecasts of electricity tariff changes through 2030. These forecasts are due by July 29. The departments are also responsible for preparing measures to limit expenses for consumers.
Furthermore, several ministries, including the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction, must collaborate to improve the efficiency of the electric power sector. Agreed proposals are expected by August 5. The focus includes refining the competitive selection process for thermal generation projects beyond 2031.
The government is also addressing the modernization of power plants that produce both electrical and thermal energy. Ministries are instructed to develop a mechanism for constructing hydroelectric power stations, including identifying financing sources for reservoir creation.
