A mother in St. Petersburg is facing potential termination of parental rights and criminal charges after leaving her infant and three teenage children unattended overnight to go to a nightclub. The incident occurred in the Vasilievsky Island district, prompting intervention by law enforcement and social services.
Police were alerted by concerned neighbors who reported that children aged 17, 13, 9, and 9 months had been left alone in an apartment. Upon arrival, officers found the eldest child, a 17-year-old with health restrictions, caring for his infant sister. The teenager informed the police that their 40-year-old mother had gone to a club the previous evening and had not yet returned.
The mother eventually returned home, and a juvenile affairs inspector is now working with her. The older children have been temporarily placed in the care of their grandmother, while the 9-month-old infant has been taken to a medical facility.
Authorities have initiated proceedings to determine whether to deprive the mother of her parental rights. The police have also submitted the case materials to social guardianship authorities for further investigation. A decision is pending on whether to initiate a criminal case against the mother. Neighbors reported finding the children in the stairwell around noon, highlighting their concern for the children’s well-being, especially considering the eldest son’s serious health condition.
