President Trump Threatens Sanctions Against Russia and Ukraine if No Deal Reached

President Donald Trump has indicated a willingness to impose new sanctions on both Russia and Ukraine if a resolution to the ongoing conflict is not achieved. This statement comes amid rising tensions following attacks within Russian territory, which Moscow attributes to Kyiv.

Trump’s comments suggest a potential shift in US policy, where both nations could face economic consequences if diplomatic efforts fail. The president emphasized that the imposition of sanctions would depend on the perceived lack of progress in reaching a deal and halting further escalations.

In a recent telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly conveyed to Trump that Russia “has no choice” but to respond to attacks carried out by Ukraine. These attacks, which included the bombing of bridges in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, as well as drone strikes targeting military airfields in multiple Russian regions, have heightened tensions between the two countries. Trump acknowledged that Putin felt compelled to retaliate after these incidents.

While some journalists have speculated that Moscow is “playing games” in the negotiation process, Trump dismissed such claims, stating that Putin was responding to being “hit hard.” The US President’s stance suggests a desire for both Russia and Ukraine to engage constructively in finding a peaceful resolution, warning that a failure to do so could result in further sanctions impacting both nations. He likened the situation to a tango, where both sides must participate to achieve a positive outcome.
