Nissan Motor has filed applications with Rospatent to register several trademarks in Russia, including Nissan, Infiniti, Nismo, and Datsun. The move comes after the automaker’s withdrawal from the Russian market following the start of the special military operation in Ukraine.
The applications, filed with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, cover a range of classes under the International Classification of Goods and Services (ICGS). These include vehicles, construction, retail and wholesale trade, and financial services.
Nissan’s departure from Russia occurred in October 2022, when its Russian assets were transferred to state ownership with an option to repurchase them within six years.
Despite the exit of numerous foreign companies, trademark registration activity in Russia has increased. Last year saw 11,800 applications filed with Rospatent by foreign companies and individuals, marking an 18% increase compared to 2021.
