A joint meeting of the “Deputy Vertical” organization and the Council of Representative Bodies of Municipalities convened in the Legislative Assembly on June 5th to discuss local self-government reform and support measures for participants in the Special Military Operation (SMO). More than 180 people, including members of the deputy assembly, legislators, and representatives of the State Duma, attended the gathering in the Sverdlovsk Legislative Assembly.
The primary focus of the meeting was the ongoing reform of local self-government bodies, aimed at creating a single-level system to enhance efficiency and manageability. As of March 2025, a significant number of regions have already transitioned to the new model, while others are in the process or have chosen to maintain a two-level system.
Another crucial topic was the support for participants in the SMO and their families, with deputies at all levels emphasizing the importance of providing social protection, adaptation, rehabilitation, and employment assistance. The Assembly views this support as a key task for deputies.
Lyudmila Babushkina, chairperson of the Legislative Assembly, emphasized the importance of supporting all participants and highlighted the review of numerous federal laws and proposals. Pavel Krasheninnikov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on State Building and Legislation, co-led the meeting with Babushkina.
Earlier, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly received a report from Alexei Shmykov, the first deputy governor of the Sverdlovsk region, on changes in the region’s economy, medicine, education, urban environment, and ecology in 2024.
