Foreign Airlines Consider Transferring Flights from Moscow to St. Petersburg

Several foreign airlines are reportedly considering relocating some of their flights from Moscow airports to St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport. This shift comes amid concerns over airspace restrictions and increasing passenger numbers traveling from St. Petersburg to Moscow for international flights.

According to sources, at least two foreign airlines have begun discussions about moving flights from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, and Domodedovo airports. These airlines already operate in St. Petersburg.

Turkish Airlines may be among the carriers considering the transfer. Emirates is also contemplating changes to its flight schedule to and from Russia, citing drone attacks on Russian regions.

Increased restrictions on Moscow airspace due to drone threats are a significant factor in the potential relocation. Additionally, the rising number of passengers from St. Petersburg traveling to Moscow for international departures is contributing to the decision.

Domodedovo Airport, however, has denied reports of a mass transfer of flights to Pulkovo. The airport affirmed its commitment to maintaining a stable partnership with airlines and stated that operational decisions are being made as usual. Pulkovo Airport has previously served as a backup airport for flights diverted from Moscow due to drone threats.
