Faberge Museum to Host Exhibition of Contemporary Art from Perm Region

The Faberge Museum will host an exhibition titled “Open World. Contemporary Art of the Perm Region” from June 7 to July 13, 2025, showcasing over one hundred and ten paintings, graphic works, and sculptures created in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The exhibition aims to reflect Perm’s unique artistic identity, including the famous animal style and traditional wooden sculpture known as the “Perm Gods.”

The exhibition will feature works by contemporary Permian artists such as Maxim Katyokin, Alexander Grekov, and Anna Demidova, alongside abstract compositions by Anatoly Frenkel and pieces by Mikhail Pavlyukevich and Olga Subbotina. The project also highlights connections to prominent figures like Sergei Diaghilev and Boris Pasternak.

The exhibition will also include works by Asya Marakulina, a well-known native of Perm, and will be complemented by a collection of Permian historical artifacts from the Bronze Age. These artifacts demonstrate the region’s enduring cultural legacy. Works by avant-garde artists from the early 1920s, including Pyotr Subbotin-Permyak, will serve as a visual introduction to the exhibition.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the Perm State Art Gallery, the Perm Regional Museum of Local Lore, the Memorial Museum-Reserve of the History of Political Repression “Perm-36”, private collections, artists’ studios, and the Marina Gisich Gallery. The exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the contemporary art scene in the Perm Region, showcasing its historical roots and modern expressions.
