A 68-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his former partner in the working settlement of Chany, Novosibirsk region. The incident occurred on June 3rd near a house on Zavodskaya Street.
The victim was discovered with stab wounds, prompting a police investigation.
According to the Investigative Committee, the suspect, a resident of the Kuibyshevsky district, approached his former lover and proposed resuming their relationship.
When she refused, he allegedly stabbed her multiple times. Passers-by witnessed the attack, and the suspect fled the scene.
The prosecutor’s office stated that the accused intended to commit suicide in his home in a neighboring settlement, wishing to die on the same day as his former partner due to unrequited love.
He departed in his VAZ car. A description of the suspect was circulated to police units in Chanovsky and neighboring districts.
Officers of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “Kuibyshevsky” apprehended the suspect. He reportedly confessed that jealousy motivated the crime.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Novosibirsk Region has charged the defendant under part 3 of article 30, part 1 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted murder). Authorities are determining the appropriate preventive measure.
The prosecutor’s office also revealed that in April 2025, the accused allegedly set fire to a bathhouse on the property of mutual acquaintances due to jealousy. A separate criminal case is underway under Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional destruction or damage to property).
