Daria Mukhina, an 18-year-old woman, endured a life-altering tragedy when her partner shot her in the head with a hunting rifle, resulting in the loss of one eye. The incident occurred after a period of escalating abuse within their relationship.
Daria, who worked as a hotel manager in Saint Petersburg, was dating her boss, a man twice her age. Initially, he appeared to be a supportive partner, but his behavior changed after they began living together. Daria reported that he became increasingly prone to drinking and acts of violence.
On April 21st, an argument escalated to a horrific act of violence. The man grabbed a Lancaster carbine and shot Daria in the head. “He pointed the weapon at me and pulled the trigger,” Daria recounted. “Actually, because of this tragedy, I lost an eye, the bones of my skull turned into fragments. He refused to call an ambulance for me, said that you still have one eye, you can do it yourself.”
Despite the trauma and physical damage, Daria has demonstrated incredible resilience. Five years after the incident, she has found a way to accept what happened and regain her self-esteem.
“I no longer feel sorry for myself, I don’t cry or grieve looking in the mirror. I look at myself and finally see a young, beautiful girl,” Daria shared in her blog. “I’m not sure that you can forget such things, but in my example, I realized that you can outgrow them.”
The details of the shooter’s fate were not disclosed, but Daria’s story focuses on her journey of healing and self-discovery.
