Novosibirsk plans to replace 4.2 kilometers of tram contact wires in 2025, as announced by the mayor’s office. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to modernize the city’s tram network.
The city consistently replaces at least 10 kilometers of contact wire each year. The total length of the tram contact network in Novosibirsk spans 147.5 kilometers.
The section slated for repair in 2025 stretches 4.2 kilometers in single-track calculation, running from Shirokaya Street to Oboronnaya Street. Additionally, the first phase of tram track repairs on Svyazistov Street is scheduled for completion by October 2025.
Following this, in 2026, MKP “GET” will commence the second phase of the project. This phase covers 4.46 kilometers, extending from Oboronnaya Street to the “Yugo-Zapadny residential area” terminus, which includes the tram loop.
The need for these repairs was highlighted in April when tram traffic on the right bank of Novosibirsk was disrupted due to a contact network failure. The high average wear and tear of the network, estimated at 60%, with some sections reaching 80%, underscores the importance of these upgrades.
