Sverdlovsk Region Residents Shocked by Karate Coach’s Murder by Husband

Andrey Papst has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, Alena, a children’s karate coach, in Shilovka, Sverdlovsk region. The seemingly perfect family’s life ended in tragedy when Andrey allegedly strangled Alena and staged a car accident to cover up the crime.

The incident has left the small village of Shilovka in mourning, with neighbors expressing disbelief that Andrey, described as a calm and respectable person, could commit such an act. Alena was found dead before the car accident occurred, with forensic examination revealing she had been strangled.

The Investigative Committee stated that Andrey killed Alena after beating her, citing personal animosity as the motive. He then allegedly changed clothes, placed her body in the car, and staged the accident near Berezovsky. Eyewitnesses at the scene noted the quick arrival of investigators, suggesting the staged nature of the accident was immediately apparent.

Alena, a well-known and beloved karate coach at sports school No. 8 in Berezovsky, is mourned by her students, colleagues, and the community. Parents of her students describe her as a “coach from God” and express deep sorrow at her loss. The sports school has released a statement expressing condolences and praising her dedication and professionalism.

Andrey Papst is currently in pre-trial detention after the Berezovsky city court denied his request for house arrest. Prosecutors argued that he might attempt to influence witnesses, who are primarily family and acquaintances. He faces 6 to 15 years in prison if convicted of his wife’s murder. Alena’s funeral will be held on August 1. The couple leaves behind two sons, ages 11 and 7.
