Major traffic congestion has gripped the heart of Yekaterinburg as repairs to tram tracks commenced at the intersection of Moskovskaya and Radishcheva streets on August 1. The resulting road closures and lane reductions have led to significant delays and gridlock throughout the area.
The Yekaterinburg Mayor’s office had previously announced the planned tram line repairs, which are expected to last until August 16. The construction involves the removal of a substantial section of asphalt on the even side of Radishcheva Street, extending up to the tram tracks. The project also affects tram routes, with modified schedules in place during the construction period.
To mitigate the impact, the mayor’s office suggested alternative routes for drivers. Those heading towards the city center can bypass the restricted zone by using Radishcheva, Sheinkman, and Malysheva streets. Drivers traveling away from the center are advised to use Radishcheva and Gurzufskaya streets.
The situation is further compounded by traffic jams on the detour routes, making commuting a challenge for residents. Online traffic maps depicted the streets near the intersection as heavily congested for several hours.
In addition to the Moskovskaya-Radishcheva closure, another road section on Mamina-Sibiryaka Street is closed, effective August 1 and lasting until the end of summer. Additional road closures are anticipated in the Uralmash and El’mash districts.
