An 88-year-old model aircraft enthusiast and designer, Vladimir Trapeznikov, died in the Omutninsky district of the Kirov region on July 31 while attempting to take off in a self-assembled helicopter-type aircraft. The incident occurred during takeoff, when the aircraft disintegrated and its blades broke off.
Trapeznikov was taken to a local hospital after the fall. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, Trapeznikov was a well-known self-taught model aircraft enthusiast from Kirov. He had a lifelong dream of becoming a pilot and built five aircraft throughout his life. His first flight in one of his own creations was in 1985.
The Volga Transport Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the incident.
