Filming has commenced in Moscow for the series “When the Fire Burns,” a Long Tale Production. The series blends detective, melodrama, and medical procedural elements, promising a captivating narrative for viewers. The premiere is expected to air in 2026.
The plot centers around a perplexing crime in a rural village. Vasily is found dead by a reservoir after a fishing trip with his 12-year-old daughter, Dasha. Dasha lies nearby with a head injury and a rifle, suggesting she shot her father. While the villagers believe Dasha is responsible, Lera, the village paramedic, suspects otherwise and launches her investigation, taking Dasha under her wing.
Lera, a former surgeon from the city, is portrayed by Varvara Feofanova. She finds herself working as a rural paramedic. Feofanova describes Lera’s journey as one of self-healing through helping others. The series also features Ilya Malakov, Gela Meskhi, and Nonna Grishaeva in key roles.
Nonna Grishaeva plays an actress whose career was cut short by a stroke. Her character is brought back to life by Lera, who encourages her to perform in a theater anniversary performance.
Director Anton Bormatov describes the series as a “detective melodrama,” highlighting Lera’s attempt to change her life. He said the story is about a girl who finds herself in an unfamiliar environment and gradually learns to love the village and its inhabitants.
Anton Toktonov, the leading producer, said the series features a well-balanced script and a talented cast. Filming locations include Moscow, the Moscow region, and the Yaroslavl region. The production team has already filmed scenes in various locations, including a hospital and a cultural center. A major expedition is planned near Uglich.
The series aims to depict provincial life authentically, with scenes filmed in old village houses featuring traditional stoves. Viktor Shkulev serves as the general producer. The online premiere will be on the “Smotrim” platform, with the television premiere on the “Russia” TV channel.
