A St. Petersburg resident, identified as Sokolov, has been fined 1,000 rubles for illegally wearing a police officer’s headdress during a mandatory check-in at a district police department on May 20th. The incident occurred at house number 95 on Moskovsky Prospekt, the location of the police station.
Sokolov, who was under administrative supervision, appeared at the police station adorned with the police hat. A justice of the peace deemed the accessory an inappropriate display and held the St. Petersburg resident accountable for the unlawful wearing of police attire. The “cap” was confiscated.
This is not an isolated incident. In a separate case, a man in the Sestroretsky district was also fined for impersonating a police officer. He was observed directing traffic near the district administration on Freedom Square. The individual was wearing a black police jacket with reflective elements and the inscription “DPS,” along with major’s epaulettes and departmental chevrons. He was also wearing Crocs, shorts, and a winter jacket at the same time.
