The Russian Orthodox Church is planning to open a hotel complex for pilgrims in the granary buildings located on the Obvodny Canal. This initiative follows state historical and cultural expert assessments published on the website of the Committee for the Protection of Monuments.

The project, known as the Pilgrimage Center of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, aims to address the consistent interest in the Lavra’s religious sites and the necessity of providing adequate rest facilities for visiting pilgrims and tourists.

The granary buildings, which have been transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church for gratuitous use by the city, will be transformed to house not only hotel rooms, but also a pilgrimage service, carpentry and painting workshops, and a boiler room. The complex is planned to offer multiple types of hotel rooms.

As part of the adaptation project, restoration of the foundations and construction of an intermediate floor are planned.
