Filming has commenced in Moscow for “When the Fire Burns,” a multi-part melodrama blending detective and medical procedural elements. Directed by Anton Bormatov, the series is produced by Long Tale Production, a subsidiary of Shkulev Holding.
The television premiere is scheduled to air on the “Russia” TV channel, with an online premiere on the “Smotrim” media platform. Anton Toktonov, the leading producer of the project, shared insights on the state of Russian cinema, the prevalence of fairy tales in storytelling, and the differences between American and Russian TV series production.
Toktonov addressed concerns about the series being labeled as “chernukha,” a term for cynical and pessimistic portrayals of Russian life, emphasizing that the series aims to depict reality without resorting to excessive negativity. He also discussed the creative choices made in the production and the overall vision for the series.
