Evgeny Gomlyakov, a veteran of the Special Military Operation (SVO), is now working as a social coordinator at the regional branch of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” foundation, assisting in the rehabilitation of fellow veterans. He devotes most of his free time to his family, including his wife and young son.

Having completed his compulsory military service in the special forces in 2012, Gomlyakov signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense and served in various roles, including reconnaissance sniper, commander of a reconnaissance detachment, and deputy commander of a reconnaissance platoon. His service included deployments to Syria and the SVO zone, where he sustained multiple injuries.

Gomlyakov was seriously wounded in May 2022 during a battle while engaging an enemy tank. The injuries resulted in the loss of part of his leg, a comminuted fracture of his left thigh, and shrapnel wounds throughout his body.

The veteran was nominated for the “Person of the Year” award of Krasnogorsk in the “Service to the Fatherland” category in 2023. He has been awarded the Order of Courage, the Zhukov Medal, and the “For Courage” medal.

At the “Defenders of the Fatherland” foundation, Gomlyakov helps support participants of the SVO, prisoners of war, and families of servicemen. The foundation addresses various needs, including rehabilitation, spa treatment, legal assistance, and obtaining payments.

Gomlyakov spends his free time with his family and participates in airsoft games with other veterans. He finds that sport helps him rehabilitate and provides a way to connect with others. He believes communication can help overcome difficulties and deal with problems.

He shared that adapting to life after the SVO took about a year, both physically and morally. The support of his family and the feeling that he contributed to the safety of others were important to him upon his return home.

He emphasized that despite difficulties, life continues, and it is possible to live on by making an effort.
