Saint Petersburg Announces Locations for Urban Improvement Projects Based on Public Vote

Saint Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov announced the selected locations for urban improvement projects based on the “Your Budget. Improvement. Comfortable St. Petersburg” vote on July 30. The initiative will focus on fourteen key areas across the city.

Several winning locations align with existing or planned urban development projects. This coordinated approach aims to maximize the impact of the improvements and create a more cohesive urban environment.

The development of Linear Park on Vasilyevsky Island is a prominent example. The project is already underway, with one of the city’s largest fountains launched in 2025 and the third phase of improvement currently in progress. Governor Beglov highlighted the importance of enhancing the pedestrian zone connecting the park to the Primorskaya metro station.

The improvement of spaces near Novosmolenskaya Embankment, 1, and at the intersection of Nalichnaya and Novosmolenskaya streets, also secured funding through “Your Budget”. These locations are strategically situated along the pedestrian route to Linear Park, further emphasizing the focus on connectivity and accessibility.

Other winning locations include the area near the Baltic Railway Station, where plans are in place to transform a parking lot into a green recreation zone, and a site across from the new square at Mitrofanyevskoe sh., 2, building 1, lit. K. Additional improvements are also planned for Boulevard Novatorov, specifically in the area of house number 59, building upon the recent completion of the boulevard’s renovation in 2024.

Territories at the entrance to Kronstadt are also slated for improvement. These plans, which involve the installation of a monumental entrance sign near the building at 25 Kronstadt Highway, align with broader development goals for the area. The project will extend to Gidrostroiteley st., west of house number 4, near the Directorate of the Complex of Protective Structures and the intersection of Kronstadt Highway and the Ring Road (KAD).

The “Your Budget” initiative will also support the development of areas adjacent to significant construction projects, such as the Badaev warehouses on Ligovsky Prospekt. These warehouses are undergoing comprehensive reconstruction and will feature a new multifunctional center.

Residents of the Gummolosary district in Pushkin, near the “Alexandrovsky” and neighboring residential complexes, have long advocated for infrastructure development and improvement in their area. The “Your Budget” program will support these efforts by enhancing the territory within the boundaries of the visual continuation of Cameronovskaya Street, Zheleznodorozhnaya, Sadovaya and the railway line of the Vitebsk direction. A new park will also be incorporated into the development plans.

Additional winning locations include a site near the memorial dedicated to the Great Patriotic War in Ust-Izhora, a square on 9th Soviet Street, and spaces near houses on Listvennaya st., 13, and Tokareva st., 18 in Sestroretsk.

Governor Beglov emphasized the importance of community involvement throughout the design and implementation phases. “We will discuss all key decisions together with residents – both during the design and during implementation,” he stated. The design and implementation of these improvement projects are scheduled to begin between 2025 and 2027.
