A new baby marmoset has been born at the Leningrad Zoo, adding to the zoo’s growing family of these small primates. The infant is the fourth offspring of parents Lusilo and Helga.
The birth occurred recently, and the newborn is already showing curiosity as it explores its surroundings. Keepers at the zoo report that the baby is active and distinguishable from its relatives by its smaller size and less speckled coloring.
For now, the tiny marmoset relies on its family for transportation, clinging to their backs as it navigates its environment. A video released by the zoo shows the baby climbing onto its sister.
This birth marks the fourth marmoset born at the Leningrad Zoo since August 2024. The zoo has been successfully breeding these primates, with one baby born in early September of the previous year. That baby was able to move independently within two weeks of its birth.
