The Russian Ministry of Justice has officially designated Alexei Navalny’s memoirs, titled “Patriot,” as extremist material. This decision, placing the book on the list of extremist materials, was reflected on the department’s website on July 30.
The specific listing, identified as entry number 5476, pertains to the 2024 Russian-language edition of “Patriot.” This edition was published by One Book Publishing, a Lithuanian publishing house.
The Leningrad Regional Court had previously banned the memoirs in June 2025. This judicial decision preceded the Ministry of Justice’s recent action.
Alexei Navalny, who was included in Rosfinmonitoring’s registry of terrorists and extremists, passed away on February 16, 2024, while serving time in IK No. 3 in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The Federal Penitentiary Service reported that Navalny became ill and lost consciousness after a walk. A scheduled inspection by the Public Oversight Commission of the YaNAO on March 1, 2024, found no violations at the penal colony.
