Tsarskoye Selo to Host “Great War. 1914” Military History Festival

The Tsarskoye Selo State Museum-Preserve will host the “Great War. 1914” military history festival on August 2nd and 3rd. Admission to the event is free for all ages.

The festival, taking place from 11:00 to 17:00 each day, will be held near the War Chamber, home to a museum dedicated to the First World War. Visitors can anticipate interactive military history camps and displays of historical equipment and weaponry.

A highlight of the festival is the equestrian demonstration. This demonstration will showcase trick riding, formation riding, Cossack saber work, shooting from horseback, and rescuing a simulated wounded person.

The “Russian Aviation” area features a recreation of a First World War-era field airfield. A full-size replica of the Farman-16 aircraft will be on display alongside armored cars, trucks, anti-aircraft guns, and automobiles.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to observe reconstructed soldiers’ and officers’ uniforms from the Russian Imperial Army and other participating nations. The festival will demonstrate how field camps were organized and drill and tactical exercises were performed.

New to this year’s festival is a display of authentic women’s and men’s accessories from the 1911-1914 period, along with exact replicas of clothing from that era. Additional activities include croquet workshops, stories about tea and dacha traditions, guided tours (requiring tickets), and complimentary screenings of films about the First World War.
