Evgeny Kuznetsov’s Possible Return to SKA Saint Petersburg

Evgeny Kuznetsov, the former SKA Saint Petersburg forward, might be returning to the club after a short absence, according to recent reports. He had his contract terminated just four months ago.

Kuznetsov has reportedly arrived in St. Petersburg, fueling speculation about a potential employment agreement with SKA. He is currently an unrestricted free agent, making him eligible to sign with any team.

Sources suggest that while Chinese club Kunlun is not interested, SKA could be a viable option for Kuznetsov. The change in leadership at SKA since Kuznetsov’s departure in April may have opened the door for his return.

SKA terminated Kuznetsov’s contract by mutual agreement in early April. He joined the team prior to the last season, amassing 37 points in 39 regular season games. In the KHL playoffs, he recorded three points in six games.

SKA is reportedly facing a shortage of attacking players, and with available funds under the salary cap, the possibility of signing Kuznetsov seems increasingly likely.

SKA’s previous head coach, Roman Rotenberg, left his position in June. Last season, under Rotenberg’s leadership, SKA finished seventh in the Western Conference and was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Moscow Dynamo.
