St. Petersburg Metro’s Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya Line Now Half “Baltiets” Trains

St. Petersburg’s Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya (red) metro line now consists of half “Baltiets” trains, according to an announcement made by the Smolny press service on July 30th.

The 34th “Baltiets” train has been commissioned and is now operational on the red line, bringing the total number of “Baltiets” model carriages in service in St. Petersburg to 280.

An additional 120 units are scheduled to be added to the fleet by the end of the year.

As of September 2024, there were only 25 “Baltiets” trains operating on the Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya line.

The city’s metro system utilizes three variations of the “Baltiets” trains. Purple trains are slated for use on the Frunzensko-Primorskaya (fifth) line by year-end and have already been observed undergoing testing within the metro system. Brown trains, recently delivered for final assembly, are destined for the developing Krasnoselsko-Kalinin line.
