Alevtina S. is on trial in Voronezh for allegedly abandoning her young daughter, Vika, for four days in an apartment. The incident came to light when neighbors found the child alone and malnourished.
The young girl, not yet three years old, was discovered by neighbors after they spotted her in a window. Neighbors reported that the child was found in unsanitary conditions, having eaten only sugar and drunk from the toilet. According to witnesses, the girl had limited vocabulary and appeared to be severely hungry.
Neighbors rescued Vika and alerted the authorities. Upon entering the apartment, they found evidence suggesting the child had been scavenging for food, mixing sugar with raw buckwheat. Alevtina returned home only after police threatened to put her on a wanted list, revealing she had been away for four days. Witnesses said Alevtina appeared indifferent and possibly intoxicated upon her return.
The case garnered significant attention, including coverage on a federal television program. During the program, Alevtina’s mother expressed disbelief in her daughter’s actions, suggesting external influences. The program also revealed details about Alevtina’s past, including giving birth at 16 and alleged involvement in prostitution.
The neighbors who rescued Vika also appeared on the show. They shared disturbing details about Alevtina’s mother and family. The neighbors indicated Alevtina’s mother displayed signs of alcoholism and that her current partner was incarcerated for having a relationship with a minor.
Currently, Vika is residing in a social rehabilitation center and is reported to be doing well. She cannot be adopted because Alevtina has not been deprived of her parental rights.
Alevtina is being held in a pre-trial detention center on charges related to the attempted murder of her daughter, where she will remain until at least December 22. She has admitted guilt, but claims she did not intend to kill Vika.
