A 26-year-old man from Balashikha, Artem Missyura, known as the “poisoner from Balashikha,” will face trial in the Moscow Regional Court for allegedly murdering his grandmother and a childhood friend. He is also accused of attempting to murder seven other individuals, including his parents, sister, and two friends, as well as fraud.

The investigation revealed that in the fall of 2023, Missyura, a mathematics tutor, decided to kill his relatives and a friend out of envy for their successful lives. He allegedly ordered poison online and first tested it on his girlfriend.
In January 2024, he added the poison to his girlfriend’s drink, causing her to suffer a stroke and be hospitalized. While she was recovering, Missyura allegedly took out two loans totaling 574,000 rubles in her name using her phone, transferred the money to his account, and spent it.
In February 2024, he poisoned his friend by offering him cranberry juice mixed with the substance while they were in a car. The friend died in intensive care the following day.
Over six months, Missyura also attempted to poison his relatives by adding the chemical to their food during visits. His mother, stepfather, sister, grandmother, and uncle were all hospitalized with signs of poisoning, although doctors were initially unable to determine the cause. In April 2024, his grandmother died in intensive care.
In May, Missyura allegedly poisoned a crab stick roll and offered it to his girlfriend’s brother and his friend, to whom he owed money. Both men ended up in the hospital but were saved by doctors.
Missyura was detained in July 2024, and the investigation has now been completed. According to the Investigative Committee, he has confessed to his actions and expressed remorse. He now awaits trial. He could face up to 30 years in prison or life imprisonment if convicted on all charges.
