Vnukovo Airport Co-Owner Seeks to Invest in State-Confiscated Domodedovo Airport

A co-owner of Vnukovo Airport, Vitaly Vantsev, has expressed interest in investing in Domodedovo Airport, which was recently taken over by the state. Vantsev stated his team’s readiness to manage the struggling air hub and suggested that a strategic investor is needed to address its financial challenges.

Domodedovo Airport is currently facing significant financial difficulties, including substantial debts to tax authorities and employees. The airport’s total debt for the first half of 2024 reportedly reached 69.8 billion rubles, raising concerns about potential bankruptcy.

Vantsev believes that the state should focus on infrastructure development rather than covering the debts incurred by the previous private investor. He emphasized the importance of finding a strategic investor to address the airport’s financial woes.

Vantsev revealed that he had previously engaged in negotiations with Domodedovo’s former owner, Dmitry Kamenshchik, in early 2025, exploring potential deals ranging from acquiring a stake in the company to merging assets. However, these discussions ultimately did not lead to an agreement.

The legal dispute surrounding Domodedovo Airport began in January 2025, with the Prosecutor General’s Office seeking to invalidate transactions involving former owners, including Dmitry Kamenshchik and Valery Kogan. The legal action was based on allegations that foreign citizens controlled the airport, with claims that Kamenshchik held Turkish and UAE citizenship, while Kogan possessed Israeli citizenship.
