Many individuals over 50 in Russia are facing difficulties in securing new employment, with age being a significant factor in hiring decisions. A recent survey conducted by Zarplata.ru, encompassing nearly two thousand employees across Russia, including the Novosibirsk region, highlights the challenges faced by older job seekers.
The survey revealed that 34% of respondents over 50 reported facing difficulties in their job search. A common sentiment among these individuals is the limited number of available vacancies.
Furthermore, 40% of respondents believe that age-related biases contribute to hiring rejections. In some cases, job seekers have resorted to concealing their age on job applications; 18% of the survey participants admitted to doing this.
The survey also shed light on employee retention rates. 73% of employees had not changed jobs in the past year, while 11% found new positions within the same industry. 12% of employees retrained and transitioned to a different industry. Sadly, 4% experienced layoffs and are currently seeking new employment.
Job seekers expressed concerns about their suitability for roles due to their age, potential difficulties in handling workloads, and the time required to adapt to new processes.
Despite the challenges, almost half of those seeking new employment successfully found jobs and had to learn new tools. Among those who learned new tools, 27% were pleased with their ability to use modern tools without problems, and the remaining number experienced difficulties in mastering the new tools and were very worried.
