Police are urging parents to monitor their children’s phone activity due to a new scam targeting schoolchildren. Fraudsters are posing as nurses or polyclinic employees to trick children into revealing SMS codes, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The scammers contact children under the guise of needing the codes for medical examinations or online test registration. They deceive the children into thinking they need the code to complete a legitimate medical process.

Authorities are advising parents to restrict their children’s access to suspicious applications and websites in addition to monitoring their phones.

This warning comes after reports of scammers involving teenagers in other criminal activities, such as “dropping,” which makes them accomplices to crimes. Scammers are also actively targeting online marketplace shoppers with fraudulent schemes.
